Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us with any questions that are not discussed below.

What is included?

All sailing excursions include fresh water, soft drinks, and ice. There is a small refrigerator and kitchen utensils on board that guests may feel free to use. The boat also has bathroom facilities  (referred to as the “head” in nautical speak). And, of course, Winsome Ride is equipped with all required safety equipment.

Where will we sail?

All excursions depart from Annapolis Harbor. From there, we’ll motor past the U.S. Naval Academy, then sail down the Severn River into the Chesapeake Bay. Depending on the strength and direction of the wind, we may sail up to and under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or down to Thomas Point Lighthouse. Frequently, there are sailboat races on the Bay which can be quite interesting to watch as we cruise by!

What should I bring along?

Take along anything you feel will make your trip more pleasant. Dressing in layers is recommended to accommodate any changes in the weather. In addition, here are a few essential items we highly recommend you bring:

  • A hat and sunglasses

  • Non-greasy sunscreen (no sprays please)

  • A light wind breaker jacket

  • Boat shoes or other non-marking shoes

  • Camera or smartphone

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Certainly! You can pack your basket and have a picnic on board. Alcoholic beverages are permitted, though glass bottles are not.

What is not permitted on board?

  • Illegal drugs

  • Smoking

  • Chewing gum

  • Glass containers

What if I’m concerned about getting seasick?

Winsome Ride is a very stable vessel and very rarely do guests feel sick. However, if you are concerned about seasickness, there are several over-the-counter remedies that work quite well. These medicines typically work best if taken the night before sailing. Also, ginger ale and candied ginger frequently help relieve seasickness. Check with your pharmacist or search Internet for the best choices.

Is there an age limit?

No, there is no age limit for guests; however, sailing with infants and/or toddlers can be difficult.  Children under 13 years are required by law to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Device (life jacket). If there will be children in your party, we request that you notify us when making your reservation.

Is it safe?

Yes, sailing is a safe and fun activity, and your safety is our #1 concern at all times. Winsome Ride has all the safety equipment required by both the U.S. Coast Guard and state law, including enough U.S. Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets) for all guests and crew. All sailing excursions will begin with a safety brief. We request that any guest that does not know how to swim notify the captain during the safety brief.

What is the cancellation policy?

Scenic Sailing reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any cruise due to weather, mechanical issues, or other issues at our discretion. In such cases, a “rain check” will be provided for another date. It is always best to call and confirm prior to your charter date to see if weather will be a concern.
